Course Description:
Augustine is recognized as the most influential church father in Christian history. This course will introduce his main ideas on grace, redemption, predestination, faith, Trinity and church. Also will explore his Confessions, esp. on its significance on our understanding of mysticism. The second theme is to explore Augustine's relationship to the classical culture in order to answer some of the common criticism against him, e.g. Augustine tends to turn Christianity into a philosophy. Our aim is to present this great Christian thinker in his own right, and learn from his life and thoughts, esp. for Chinese Christians to take him as an example in evangelism and cultural concern.
